6 Ways to Upgrade your Home Bar

1. Dark and Moody Details

Why are some of our favorite bars so dark and moody? Mystery, intrigue and a little bit of suspense. We used fabulous hand cut tile with rich painted copper finish as the back-splash for this bar make over, taking it from builder grade 1990’s to a chic and moody space. The copper sink and Cambria countertop are the perfect partners in this dreamy and inviting home bar. It’s just the right amount of old fashioned style and modern living.

2. Find the Right Seating

We love designing with comfort and style in front of mind. Counter and bar stools can make a bold statement, while tying all of the details in a space together. A beautiful arc in the seat back, fun risers and leg caps are just some of the details that make your bar stools stand out from the crowd. Durable performance fabrics are a great choice for counter and bar stools, like this fabulous Romo fabric with stain guard nano technology protection. Because it’s a bar, and spills happen… plus nano technology is just fun to say!

3. Mix Metals the Right Way

Skull hardware with Swarovski crystal eyes is always the answer to the question - what’s the best bar cabinet hardware ever invented? Mixing metals is always acceptable when you have skull hardware with crystal eyes. The antique pewter in my (still) favorite bar faucet works beautifully here. Paired with a hammer copper sink detail and stunning stone mosaic back-splash, this bar is ready for the weekend. Speaking of mixing…who’s mixing the drinks?

4. Organic Details

We believe your home should be a reflection of who you are and how you live. We hand picked this slab of Eucalyptus wood and had it sealed and stained to accentuate the beauty of the natural color. The raw edge detail adds a sense of nature, and gives a nod to the beautiful surrounds of the home's location - wooded areas and beautiful lakes.

5. Seating with a View

When you have the space, a bar in a game room needs comfortable seating. We love this room’s backdrop and the swivel chairs, which allow for intimate conversation, a view to outside, or the perfect spot to catch the game. We added soft details, with performance fabrics to resist staining and contrasting nail heads that define these swivel chairs clean lines. Transitional styling with a side of whiskey.

6. Incorporate Patterns

Adding textured and patterned fabrics to bar and counter stools is one of our favorite ways to spice up a bar. We added a fun hex pattern with soft greens and blues to this family friendly counter area, in a durable performance fabric that will hold up against daily use. The custom paint color we selected for the base cabinets is a balanced soft and neutral background for this playful pattern. Moodier cabinetry colors call for dramatic splashes of color and texture. An antiqued leather finish is perfectly at home with old world rustic cabinetry styling.
