Alex's Story
Meet Alex!
Alex was diagnosed with Leukemia when he was just 16 months old. At the time his family lived and worked in Ocala, but for the next 3 and a half years endured a treatment schedule that involved travelling to Tampa at least once a month for Alex’s protocol.
As Alex’s Mom says, he was robbed of ‘ringing the bell’ in 2021. The family was hoping to move forward and instead received the shocking news that his cancer was again growing and that he would be starting a whole new treatment plan.
Alex’s family made the decision to move to Tampa. They would be closer to family for support, and closer to the hospital that Alex spends too much time in. They found a house and moved in, but needed help unpacking and creating a safe and healing space for Alex to come home to between lengthy hospital stays.
Alex loves his brothers Teddy (7) and Sam (9), Roblox and dogs! So we worked to incorporate a few of their favorites in a new space.
For Alex, Teddy and Sam we transformed their gaming space with paint and decals and the perfect floating desk built by the guys at First Place Finisher. The boys love playing roblox and it gives them a chance to be online together playing even when Alex is in treatment.
More than anything, this sweet family wanted to be together when Alex gets to be home. We removed an old red loveseat and created a cozy and comfortable living room area for family movie nights and snuggles.
Window treatments by The Drapery Company are light filtering with a playful contrast tape on the leading edge. We used a neutral sofa with performance fabric to hold up in a family space with three boys and a dog! Fun storage ottomans and accent baskets at the entry help with show storage and blankets.
Our friend Amanda Calta at Reloved Home Designs took the families existing dresser and painted it the perfect shade of blue, Svenska Blue from Annie Sloan.
We are honored to meet this beautiful family who bravely continue to fight and support Alex. We are excited to transform a space for them so that when Alex is home from hospital stays they can spend time together as a family, rest and heal, and make plans for a bright future.
Thank you to all our volunteers! We could not have done this without them!
Thank you Dave Varney for the wallpaper installation.
Thank you to Sir Painter for the paint!
