Sadie's Story
Meet Sadie!
Sadie was 12 years old, a blackbelt in mixed martial arts, and about to start the summer of 2021. When she had rib pain, her family associated with her sport and assumed a sports injury. But on July 1st 2021 when they took her to the ER, the scans revealed a mass. Said had to have the area biopsied and the mass was confirmed to be Ewing's Sarcoma, bone cancer.
In the years that followed, Sadie had a total of 14 cycles of chemotherapy, 31 radiation treatments, and a 10 1/2 hour surgery that removed the tumor, 5 ribs, and a lobe of her right lung. This sweet girls has been resilient and brave beyond her years. In April of 2022 she was finally in remission and with the support of her friends and family, ready to start her healing journey.
In March of 2023, Sadie fell ill with what her family assumed was strep throat, but with her history, their pediatrician sent them to the ER once again. In a terribly unfair twist, Sadie was diagnosed with rare chemo induced secondary A.M.L (Leukemia) from the chemo used to treat the Ewings.
She has continued treatment for the Leukemia and in June of this year, received a bone marrow transplant! Her 1/2 brother was her match and she had her transplant on June 22nd and is recovering in an Orlando hospital. They are in the waiting process now for cells to engraft.
While Sadie is away from her home and most of her family (and the cutest cat) we will be designing her room so that she can come home to a new and beautiful space ready for her to grow and heal.
Her Mom describes Sadie as such a light. “She has made every day look easy even though it has been so tough, but she is so much tougher. She is 14 now and cancer has taken away enough of her childhood. She is ready to heal and just be a kid again.”
We are honored to give Sadie a new and beautiful room. We are thankful as always for the support of our generous donors and supporters. Stay tuned for more on Sadie’s story.
