Organically Inspired at KBIS 2023
We spent almost a week at KBIS 2023 in Las Vegas as a DesignHound; and found all of the new and exciting releases in the world of kitchen and bath. Our favorites (and how to incorporate them into your home) are below.
Wellness and self-care have been a huge focus over the past years with the industry stretching and growing to accommodate mindful strategies that make taking care of ourselves a priority. With more accessible options being available in various price points, we are seeing homeowners incorporate spa features into many of their bathrooms and innovative healthful technology into kitchens and appliances.
Mr. Steam is no stranger to the benefits of ancient treatments that have stood the test of time. Holistic approaches to health and well-being have included steam treatments for hundreds of years. With the addition of technology, today’s steam rooms can incorporate additional augmented therapies, such as chromatherapy, aromatherapy, and music therapy. We have been consistently specifying steam showers in our client’s bathrooms for several years and expect that trend to continue well into the future.
What is it about growing our own produce that is so appealing? Personally I think it’s the idea of fresh food and sustainable practices, coupled with the knowledge that healthful food is key to our longevity. Add in some elegant and impressive tech and options for small scale herb gardens through to full scale salad production and you’ve got the LG Tiiun, a self contained unit that allows anyone to garden, regardless of climate or location. If you don’t currently have space for the built-in refrigerated models, the tabletop device is the perfect addition to a kitchen countertop or nook.
A new fan favorite from the Kohler introductions shown at KBIS included the Occasion collection, and the bathroom vignettes showing this stylized and elegant introduction were show stopping.
The collection from Kohler may be inspired by the glamor of the Golden Age of Hollywood, but the pairing with organically inspired materials created a beautiful juxtaposition of materiality and texture.
Of course, terrazzo was a big player again this year at KBIS in everything from shower vignettes, to cabinet hardware, to countertops approved for use outdoors.
Speaking of terrazzo, we were impressed with the beauty and range of applications shown in the Compac display. Featuring terrazzo products that are both resistant to water and humidity, we find it to be the perfect product for the brutal conditions here in the Florida sun. The Compac Terrazzo High Performance stone comes in a beautiful range of colors. Other notable additions to the terrazzo lines include fluted and textured surfaces, ideal for adding visual texture to many design applications.
